There are three categories of Membership at IEX applicable to both the Power and REC segment:

• Proprietary Membership: Any entity who is a proprietor Member can trade for its own account as well as on account of its companies provided the ownership remains the same and clear the same through the Clearing House as a Clearing Member.
• Trader Membership: An entity who has been granted licence for trading in electricity under Trading Licence Regulations, 2020 and admitted as a member of the Power Exchange shall be called a Trader Member. Trader Member shall trade and clear on its own account or trade and clear on behalf of its client. Provided that a Trader Member or any of its Associates shall not be a Facilitator Member.
• Facilitator Membership: Any entity who is neither grid connected nor holding a valid and subsisting Interstate Trading License can apply under this category. The Facilitator Member shall not be entitled to trade for himself but shall have the right to act for and on behalf of his clients although he cannot settle and clear contracts on the Exchange for such clients.

Yes, such entities can apply for Membership at IEX under the same name.

The suggested clause “Pursuing business of facilitating sale and purchase of Electricity Contracts and Renewable Energy Certificates Contracts or any other Contracts traded on the platform of Indian Energy Exchange.”

The initial Security Deposit (SD) is required to be given in 100% cash component. The lock in period for SD is three (3) years.

IEX is approved and regulated by Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) which is a statutory authority constituted under the Electricity Act 2003 with quasi judiciary role. The activities of IEX are regulated under the various regulations and procedures notified by CERC including the Power Market Regulations 2010, as amended from time to time.

Grid Connected Client: A Client who is eligible to buy or sell electricity and is connected to the grid. The entities including but not limited to, Distribution Licensees, Generators and Open Access Users can become Grid-connected Clients.

Trader Client: A Client who is eligible to trade in electricity under the Electricity Act, 2003 and has a legally valid power purchase/sale agreement, which gives the Client the right to purchase and sell electricity. The entities such as trading licensees can become Trader Clients. All Trader Clients shall have a grid-connected entity for affecting the delivery of the electricity as cleared and settled by the Exchange.
